First beta now rolling out to users worldwide

Microsoft is now rolling out a new beta version of its Android launcher, yet this time the improvements are not as significant as the ones the company shipped in the previous updates.

Microsoft Launcher 5.9 will come with only two notable changes in the release notes, and the first beta, which is being released in stages to testers across the world, providing an early look at them ahead of the official launch in October.

The most important concerns the calendar icon, which with the release of the new version gets a dynamic behavior, meaning that it can change according to the current date.

In other words, the calendar icon won’t be just a static generic icon, but one that changes every day to show the current date without the need for opening the calendar app. This is something that we’ve seen before on other devices, such as the iPhone, and it’s clearly a welcome improvement for Microsoft Launcher on Android as well.

The second change concerns the improvements that Microsoft has made under the hood, as the development team fixed issues affecting features like the wallpaper support and the calendar card. All of these should provide a more polished experience overall, so if you previously came across bugs in the launcher, they should no longer be there after the update.

Keep in mind that Microsoft is rolling out this new beta build to testers worldwide in stages, so if you don’t see the new version in the Play store despite being part of the beta program, just wait for a few more hours and it should show up.

As for Microsoft Launcher 5.9 stable, there is no ETA for the time being, but a new version typically needs a few weeks to graduate from beta to stable channels.
