Translator app being retired later this month

With Windows 10 Mobile reaching the end of support in December this year, it’s not surprising that more and more developers leave this platform behind and abandon their apps.

As one of the top mobile software developers, Microsoft has no other option than to do the same, despite some users feeling betrayed by the company for giving up on everything related to Windows phones.

The latest Microsoft app to get the ax is the official Microsoft Translator app for Windows 10 Mobile, which will stop working on Windows phones later this year.

Download links removed this month

Microsoft explains in an announcement that text translation will continue to work, but on the other hand, speech translation will be killed off in October. On the other hand, download links will be pulled as soon as this month.

This means that if you already have the Translator app installed on your phone, it would continue to work normally until later this year, but once you remove it, there’s no way to get it back.

“Microsoft Translator app on the Windows Phone 10 will not be available in the Microsoft Store starting in April 2019. If you currently use the Windows Phone 10 app, text translation will still work, but speech translation will not be available starting on October 15, 2019. Translator will continue to support and enhance the Windows 10 app for PC,” Microsoft explains.

As it does every time, the software giant recommends users to switch to Android and iOS, explaining that the Translator app on these platforms comes with even more advanced functionality.

“If you also have an Android or iOS device, please try the Translator app on those platforms – Translator on Android and iOS offer many additional features and languages,” the company says.

The official Microsoft Translator app no longer works on Windows Phone either, as the company pulled it last year.
