Same issues keep being reported with every release

Even though the re-release of Windows 10 version 1809 was supposed to bring a much more refined experience to all devices, some users are learning the hard way that bugs still exists, and what’s even worse, no workarounds seem to resolve them.

One such example is the terrible audio performance that a number of users are getting after the update. And while it’s without a doubt disappointing that Microsoft has left this bug unfixed even in the second version of update 1809, it’s even more frustrating that the issue has been around for a long time.

The broken audio experience has been a thing for at least a couple of Windows 10 feature updates, and living proof is the long list of complaints that are yet to get an official answer from Microsoft.

Issues with the sound in Windows 10 started showing up after the update to version 1803 (April 2018 Update) and posts on Microsoft’s Community forums (1 and 2) show that these weren’t just isolated reports.

In most of the cases, the problems were caused by bad drivers, and users could eventually fix them by simply rolling back to previous versions of the drivers. Microsoft itself also tried to lend a hand to users with some recommendations and updates, but in many cases, these attempts didn’t make any difference.

Enter Windows 10 version 1809

The saga continued with the launch of Windows 10 version 1809. The first release, which we already know was flawed, came with audio issues of its own, and I discussed them the first time in October, shortly after the launch of the update.

While updates were published to correct the unexpected behavior, little has changed for several users, and the new version of Windows 10 October 2018 Update causes the same audio glitches as its predecessor.

Most often, these issues come down to distorted sound, disabled audio devices, audio crackling, or simply no sound coming out of the speakers, despite everything apparently working well.

A discussion on reddit shows that the problems were reported by users shortly after the first Windows 10 October 2018 Update build was publicly rolled out. A Microsoft engineer joined the discussion, but despite this, the issue is still unresolved.

Complaints regarding the poor audio experience in Windows 10 have been posted everywhere, including the Feedback Hub, but for the time being, it just seems that Microsoft can’t find a way to fix them.

How’s your experience with Windows 10 version 1809 so far? Is audio working as expected?
