The company is just facing supply problems

Microsoft has become one of the important players in the Android device market, as the company’s Surface Duo is now a model that’s pushing the innovation level a step further.

However, while the Redmond-based company has insisted on the long-term strategy for its Android hardware efforts, everybody was surprised to see the Surface Duo 2 no longer available at Microsoft.com and other stores, such as Best Buy.

In other words, the Surface Duo 2 could no longer be purchased, and many believed this was the end of the device.

Of course, this would make some sense given a new Surface Duo generation is already in the works, but according to people familiar with the matter, this model shouldn’t go live until 2023. This made many believe that Microsoft is already giving up on the Surface Duo 2.

Surface Duo 3 coming next year

However, the company explains in a statement for WindowsCentral that this is totally not the case. The only reason that the Surface Duo 2 can no longer be purchased today is the supply challenges that the entire world is currently dealing with.

“We are experiencing supply constraints that are impacting stock of Surface Duo 2 units. The product is not being discontinued. We continue to update and to innovate on this form factor and are excited by customer interest,” Microsoft told the source.

Microsoft is indeed working on a new-generation Surface Duo, but of course, the company has so far remained completely tight-lipped on the plans for the new device. The debut should take place at some point in 2023, possibly in the fall of the year, with Microsoft expect to bet big on new-generation hardware as well.

It remains to be seen, however, how Microsoft plans to improve the existing form factor, especially because the dual-screen design is becoming more common these days.
