Email signatures will be stored in the cloud, company says

Microsoft is currently working on a new feature that would finally resolve one of the biggest annoyances of its email clients, such as Outlook, once and for all.

Microsoft says it’s working on storing email signatures in the cloud, which means you’ll create it just once and then have it synced to all the other devices where the same account is configured.

How email signatures work right now is incredibly frustrating, especially for those who configured the same email accounts on more than one device. And Microsoft is actually the one insisting for everyone to have their emails on desktop and mobile, so resolving the signature annoyance is actually part of a broader plan.

Easy temporary workaround

Right now, if you configure your email signature in Outlook on a Windows PC, for example, but you also use the Outlook app on a Mac, on Android, and on iPhone, the only place where the signature will be is on that Windows PC. In other words, you’ll have to create the same signature again for Outlook on Mac, again for Android, and one more time for iPhone.

How I deal with this drawback is actually quite simple, and I also use the power of cloud to deal with the whole thing. I created a text document with my signature and then uploaded it to OneDrive, so every time I configure my email on a new device, I just launch that text document and copy the signature and then paste it in Outlook.

Obviously, this isn’t as convenient as just having the signature downloaded from the cloud, but otherwise, it does its job pretty well.

Microsoft says the feature is currently in the works, and the planned release date is June 2020. For now, it looks like Outlook for Windows is the first one to get the cloud signature support.
