14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft told us in a statement that it’s aware of a possible issue that might lead to systems configured to block Windows 10 April 2018 Update to actually be offered the new OS version.
As we reported last week, a number of computers running Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise SKUs have been offered the upgrade to April 2018 Update (version 1803), even if they’ve been specifically configured to only get OS feature updates when they are ready for the Semi-Annual Channel.
The rollout of Windows 10 April 2018 Update started earlier this month, and the experience so far has been rather buggy in the case of home users.
Microsoft typically needs a few months to begin shipping new Windows 10 updates to the Semi-Annual Channel, but due to what seems to be a bug, some systems have already received the April 2018 Update this month.
“We are investigating”
Details aren’t yet available, but the company said it’s looking into this to determine what exactly happened. No specifics were provided though.
“We are aware of these reports and actively investigating this issue,” a Microsoft spokesperson told us.
The number of bugs discovered in Windows 10 April 2018 Update is growing every day, and Microsoft has until now been rather slow in fixing these. The next Patch Tuesday cycle takes place on June 12 when new Windows 10 cumulative updates are projected to land, and without a doubt, more fixes aimed at Windows 10 April 2018 Update are also expected.
In the meantime, it remains to be seen if this is indeed a bug and computers set to defer updates are still being offered the upgrade to version 1803. No other information is available for the time being, but it’ll definitely be interesting to find out what exactly happened with what appears to be another aggressive push of this Windows 10 update.
