Smaller refinements included for Dev channel insiders

Microsoft keeps refining the experience with Windows 11, and part of these efforts is making everything in the operating system look and feel modern.

As many users know already, this is a work in progress at this point, so every new Windows 11 update brings additional refinements that continue the overall of the operating system.

The most recent release in the Windows Insider program follows the same recipe. Windows 11 build 25197 comes with additional touches for the System Tray in order to align it with the rest of the OS.

“This update introduces updates to the System Tray that affect all device types — not just 2-in-1 devices. With this change, users will see a rounded focus and hover treatment on all icons in the lower right, due to the continued modernization of this experience,” Microsoft explains.

Only available for select insiders

At this point, however, the makeover that takes place in the System Tray is still in its early days, so not everything is working as planned. Microsoft warns of a bug that impacts the way users can rearrange the icons in the System Tray, but a fix is already in the works.

“You may also notice that it is not possible to drag and drop or rearrange your system tray icons with this change. We heard your feedback on this change earlier this year and are working to address this in a future Insider Preview build,” the company explains.

For the time being, this new Windows 11 refinement is available only for a limited number of insiders in the Dev channel. This is because the Redmond-based software giant is using a phased rollout, just to make sure everything works as expected.

The availability will be further expanded when more reliability data is collected on the new polishing that’s now rolling out to the first users.
