Latest insider cumulative update finally resolves this bug

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) may no longer be up for grabs, but users who managed to install it in the few days of availability encounter various unexpected bugs.

Including a Task Manager glitch, that is, which is totally surprising given that the exact same problem was originally discovered and acknowledged by Microsoft during the Windows Insider program testing.

Specifically, a bug in Task Manager causes the app to show incorrect CPU usage in the Processes tab, and Microsoft confirmed the problem when it rolled out Windows 10 preview build 17763. The same build was eventually promoted to RTM and was shipped to production devices across the world without the issue getting a fix.

The most recent cumulative update that the software giant rolled out for Windows insiders finally addresses it, so when the Windows 10 October 2018 Update release resumes at some point soon, the bug should no longer be there.

If you’re part of the Windows Insider program and enrolled in the Slow and Release Preview rings, the cumulative update that you must install to fix the issue is KB4464455. Fast ring insiders aren’t getting this update, as they are already running Windows 10 19H1 builds, just like those in Skip Ahead.

One more bug to squash

While Microsoft has corrected this issue, there’s still one bug left in Task Manager, but there’s no information as to when it could get a fix.

The background processes section in Task Manager comes with an issue that causes items to keep blinking, and once again, this is a problem that existed in preview builds and which Microsoft itself acknowledged. It was fixed in Windows 10 build 18252 (19H1), but the company hasn’t said anything about a potential release for Redstone 5 users.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update is still in re-testing now, and it’s not known when the rollout could resume to production devices across the world.
