Next build could introduce it to Windows insiders

Microsoft is working on revamping the Settings UI in Microsoft Edge browser, and according to a new report, the first step in this regard would be made with the next build release coming to Windows insiders sometime this week.

At this point, all configuration options in Microsoft Edge are integrated right within the browser and can be accessed through the column-based UI, which although quite straightforward, makes finding specific settings a bit harder if you don’t know where to look.

In Windows 10 Redstone 5, this is all expected to change. WL writes that Microsoft is currently exploring a new Settings page design for Microsoft Edge that would finally group all options in categories, which clearly makes more sense given how fast the browser evolves.

Microsoft Edge was originally just a basic browser with a few settings, and the current design certainly made sense, but every new Windows 10 feature release brought more improvements that eventually turned everything into a very complex and chaotic configuration screen.

Coming to everyone with Redstone 5 update

According to a screenshot published by the cited source, the Settings UI could group options in sections like general, privacy and security, passwords and autofill, advanced, and velocity features. As usual, these could further change as Microsoft Edge gets more updates and new categories could be added following the debut of new features.

While Microsoft will start testing this new Settings UI with the upcoming Windows 10 preview builds, all users would get in the fall when the company ships the Redstone 5 update. Microsoft Edge is only getting updates as part of OS feature updates, and the next one is due in the fall. As per Microsoft’s release schedule, Redstone 5 should be finalized in September and then shipped to users in October.

A new Windows 10 Redstone 5 build is projected to land this week, and this new Settings UI design is expected to be included.
