Edge browser finally available for Windows 10 preview users

Windows 10 build 10158 has been officially released to fast ring users of the Windows Insider program earlier today, and word has it that this is the last preview build before the big launch in July 29, so everyone should give it a try especially if they plan to stick to Windows 10 when it becomes available.

Build 10158 is the very first that brings the Microsoft Edge browser, which in the final version will replace Internet Explorer as the default browser.

Previously available in older builds as Project Spartan, Microsoft Edge comes in build 10158 with several improvements, including a new dark theme that perfectly fits the new Windows 10 visual style.

Keep in mind, however, that, because of the rebranding process, you might lose your favorites when installing Windows 10 build 10158, so make sure you save your favorites before everything else.

To do that, copy favorites from

%localappdata%/Packages/Microsoft.Windows.Spartan_cw5n1h2txyewy/AC/Spartan/User/Default/Favorites

to the following folder:

%userprofile%/Favorites

And when you install build 10158, you should be prompted to import your favorites at the first launch of Microsoft Edge.

Other features

Microsoft Edge also comes with a new home button that allows you to quickly access your configured home page, but also with settings to import favorites and bookmarks from other browsers.

“One of the top pieces of feedback we’ve heard from Windows Insiders is that many of you really wanted a ‘home’ button for Microsoft Edge. In this build, we’ve provided an option for you to add it via Settings > Advanced Settings and turn on ‘Show the home button,’” Microsoft explains.

Overall, Edge feels and works pretty well in this build, which could be living proof that we’re getting closer to the moment when Microsoft finally presses the green button for Windows 10 RTM.

Below you can find all the changes that Microsoft made to Edge in build 10158.
