Microsoft is betting big on Microsoft Edge in the long term, and one of the benefits of the migration to the Chromium engine is the cross-platform support.

In other words, Edge is no longer limited to Windows 10, as it’s also offered to users on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, macOS, and even Linux. And needless to say, Microsoft has also launched mobile versions for Android and iPhone, so at the first glance, the lineup is complete.

But it’s not, as Microsoft also wants to bring Edge to Xbox consoles. The latest Xbox Alpha build includes Edge browser, thus providing users with a modern way to browse the web on their consoles.

With support for Xbox One and Xbox Series S and X, Microsoft Edge is currently lacking mouse and keyboard compatibility, so if you browse the web on your console, you need to do it with the Xbox controller.

Modern feature lineup

But the feature lineup includes everything you’d expect to find in a modern browser, including support for extensions, collections, and even the vertical tabs that have recently been introduced in the latest version of Edge on Windows 10.

“To make tab management and organization easier, vertical tabs is now generally available this month. Now everyone can view and manage their tabs from a pane on the side with a single click. This allows you to clearly see the tab titles and controls, making it easier to find and switch between the tabs you need, regardless of how many you have open. Pair this with sleeping tabs and you get a browser built for more performance at lower power! To get started, click on the vertical tabs icon in the upper left corner of your browser frame,” Microsoft said recently when rolling out the latest major Edge update on the desktop.

At this point, an ETA as to when Edge could go live for all Xbox users isn’t yet available.
