Microsoft has released a new Edge Dev build, and one of the biggest changes is the support for Apple Silicon. This feature was originally exclusive to the Canary build, so Microsoft has now brought M1 chip compatibility to the Dev channel as well.

Microsoft Edge Dev build 89.0.752.1 thus comes with a new installation screen that allows users to choose the version they want to install and choose between Mac with Intel chips and Mac with Apple chip.

The new build also introduces an option to share, copy, and paste settings to disable enhanced link copying for links on webpages, but also the filtering capability to price comparison.

Microsoft has also added an icon to the PDF toolbar that lets users find content on page, as well as support for verifying digital signatures of PDFs on Mac.

Apple Silicon support on its way to stable builds

The Redmond-based software giant says it has completed the rollout of Sleeping Tabs, and it also fixed plenty of crashes in the browser, as it follows:

  • Fixed a crash when opening Edge.
  • Fixed a crash on launch.
  • Fixed a crash when Edge has an update ready to install.
  • Fixed a crash when selecting text in a PDF.
  • Fixed an issue where selecting text in a PDF sometimes crashes it.
  • Fixed a crash when printing something as a PDF.
  • Fixed a crash when printing.
  • Fixed a crash when printing a PDF.
  • Fixed a crash when using Web Capture.
  • Fixed a hang when using Collections.
  • Fixed an issue where Edge sometimes randomly hangs.

The new Edge Dev build is available on Windows and Mac, and it can be downloaded using the link in this article. Keep in mind Dev releases are still previews and they shouldn’t be installed on production devices where stability and reliability are two big concerns.
