The games will be online and powered by MSN Games

Microsoft Edge is a browser that’s getting more and more features, and one of the latest ideas that Microsoft appears to be experimenting with is specifically related to games.

More specifically, the Redmond-based software giant is working on adding a new games panel in the browser, therefore allowing users to access some pre-loaded games with just a click.

The new button, which will be added right in the toolbar in the main UI when users enable it, will provide one-click access to some games like Solitaire, Microsoft Jewel, Chess, and others, all of them hosted on MSN Games.

In other words, they’re online games, so the games panel is more of a way to provide users with simple shortcuts to launch them in the browser.

Currently in the Canary build

At this point, this new idea is still in its very early days, so it’s only available for a limited number of users in the Canary testing channel of Microsoft Edge.

This means not everybody can try it out, and reddit user Leopeva64-2, who has an excellent track on unreleased browser features, explains the games panel is disabled by default. So if you’re already running Microsoft Edge Canary and the feature isn’t showing up for you, just make sure it’s enabled in the Settings screen under the Appearance section.

Microsoft has so far remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the games panel it’s working on for Microsoft Edge, but expect this feature to become available for more users in early January when new testing builds are released to users out interested in playing with early versions of the browser.

Needless to say, given these are online games, the new games panel should make its way to all versions of Microsoft Edge on the desktop, no matter if you run Windows, macOS, or Linux.
