Microsoft Edge has just received another important update: the application now supports native themes, with the Redmond-based software giant also rolling out a small pack users can try out right away.

With themes, Microsoft Edge allows enhanced customization, as they change the tabs, the new tab page background, the address bar, and other parts of the browser according to the pack you install.

Microsoft has also created special themes based on popular franchises, and installing them is as easy as clicking the Get button on this page.

More themes on the way

“Browsers act as portals to our online world. Since a majority of time spent online is through a browser, they are part of how we think about and experience the web each day – and now you can make Microsoft Edge your own with themes. For our 1-year anniversary, I’m excited to share we’ve created 24 new themes so now you have more ways to personalize your browser, with more coming over time. We’ve also partnered with Xbox to offer themes from your favorite franchises, including Halo, Gears, Forza, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and more,” Microsoft explains.

Given it’s based on the Chromium engine, Microsoft Edge also supports themes from the Chrome Web Store, but the Redmond-based software giant’s intention is pretty clear here. The company wants its users to be provided with exclusive content they can install for the browser regardless of the platform they run.

The themes thus work not only on Windows devices where the Chromium version of Edge is currently installed, but also on macOS and Linux, and the way users can install them is the same on every operating system. Microsoft has promised to add more themes in the coming future, so it remains to be seen how popular these themes end up becoming.
