The new feature is currently in the Canary build

Microsoft Edge is a browser that’s continuously evolving, and the Canary builds are a great way to keep an eye on all the new ideas that Microsoft is currently experimenting with.

Reddit user Leopeva64-2 has discovered one new silent addition to the Edge feature arsenal, this time borrowed by Google Chrome.

Added to Chrome Canary a while ago, the desktop sharing hub is now live in Edge Canary as well, essentially grouping all sharing options under one roof and available right from the omnibox.

Once enabled, this feature allows users to simply click a new icon to access the available sharing options for the loaded page, which can include anything from copying the link to generating a QR code.

This new desktop sharing hub, however, is still in its early days, so it’ll take a while until it makes its way to the stable version of Microsoft Edge.

The best Windows 10 browser

This new feature addition shows that Microsoft is fully committed to improving Edge in the long term.

At build this week, Microsoft told the world that Edge is the best browser for Windows 10, praising its performance optimizations that makes it feel like home on the operating system.

“You care about the developer tools, but we also know that you want great experiences when people use your website or application—and browser performance is essential to that. Since last Build, we’ve added new features to boost browser performance and because of this Microsoft Edge will be the best performing browser on Windows 10 when Microsoft Edge version 91 releases later this week! So, why can we say this? It’s simple: Startup boost and sleeping tabs,” Microsoft said.

The migration to Chromium allowed Microsoft Edge to become a cross-platform browser, so in addition to Windows 10, it’s also available on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, macOS, and Linux.
