Microsoft is one of the tech giants that are trying to help the front line medical workers fighting with the new coronavirus, and a few minutes ago the company confirmed the first 5 pallets of protecting equipment are now on their way to staff in the Seattle area as a donation.

Microsoft is donating protection goggles, infrared thermometers, medical caps, and protective suits, all of which will be used by doctors to treat patients infected with COVID-19.

“As businesses mobilize, our global supply chain team is hard at work securing much-needed supplies for healthcare workers. On Fri, the first 5 pallets of PPE arrived, including: - 15,000 protection goggles - Infrared thermometers - Medical caps - Protective suits,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said on Twitter.

“Microsoft has donated & delivered these to the state for distribution in the Seattle area. We are so grateful to our front line medical workers for keeping us safe. Thanks to @WADeptHealth & @WhiteHouse for clearing hurdles to make this delivery possible. More is on the way!”

More equipment to ship soon

The official Microsoft account has also confirmed on Twitter the equipment is on its way to medical staff in the Seattle area.

“In our home state of Washington, our global supply chain team has been hard at work. The first 5 pallets of personal protective equipment has been delivered to the state for distribution in the Seattle area. A small token of our appreciation to front line medical workers,” the company said.

The United States is the third most affected country by the new coronavirus, after China and Italy, with over 1,200 new cases confirmed only in the last 24 hours. At the time of writing, nearly 35,000 people have already been infected with COVID-19 in the United States, and official stats reveal a total of 452 deaths caused by the virus.
