Microsoft officially retired Windows 10 Mobile on December 10 as part of this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle.

In other words, Windows 10 Mobile is now an unsupported platform that no longer receives any security updates and improvements, so users are left with no other option than to switch to Android or iOS.

Microsoft published a message on the official page of Windows 10 Mobile to indicate that the latest updates for Windows 10 Mobile shipped on December 10.

“Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 will reach end of service on December 10, 2019. Devices running Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats,” the company said.

One more month

And somehow, the software giant had a sudden change of mind, moving the end of support date to January 14, 2020.

Not surprisingly, January 14 is also the date when Microsoft will retire Windows 7, so presumably, it’s easier for the software giant to cope with the demise of two products at the same time rather than pull one another two months in a row.

The message on the said page has been updated to indicate that Windows 10 Mobile would live for a little longer:

“Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 will reach end of service on January 14, 2020. Devices running Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. “

In other words, Windows 10 Mobile is projected to receive one more security patch in January 2020. Unless this update on the end-of-support page is just a mistake on Microsoft’s side and the original retirement date would be restored in the coming days.
