Company confirms Surface hardware even on October 2

Microsoft has recently announced a Surface event to take place on October 2 in New York City, and while the company hasn’t shared any specifics on the hardware to make it to the show, many expect it to finally take the wraps of dual-screen device.

Microsoft is believed to have been working on a foldable Surface for at least a couple of years, and while many originally described it as the highly-anticipated Surface Phone, the project evolved to eventually become a multi-form factor device that can double as a laptop and tablet.

While it sticks with the original Microsoft Surface 2-in-1 approach, this Surface model is projected to come with two separate screens, which should help improve the available screen estate and score big in terms of portability and usability.

The dual-screen Surface, however, might not go on sale this year, so if it indeed makes its way to the October 2 event, the only thing we could get is a confirmation of the project ahead of a possible launch in 2020.

However, given all of these are just rumors, take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism until this upcoming event.

Other Surface upgrades

Meanwhile, what’s more likely is Microsoft taking the wraps off hardware upgrades for other Surface models like the Surface Book and the Surface Laptop. Much of the Surface lineup is already outdated despite a recent hardware refresh, but Microsoft is expected to unveil further refreshes that could include the addition of USB-C ports.

This makes sense in the long-term, albeit people familiar with the matter also suggested that a new Surface Pro model, presumably called Surface Pro 6, could see daylight at the show with an improved Touch Cover and other hardware upgrades.

Certainly, the October 2 event will be worth keeping an eye on if you’re interested in Microsoft’s hardware plans, and expect additional information to surface in the remaining weeks.
