Microsoft is expected to take the wraps off the Surface Pro 7 at an event on Wednesday, and now more information indicates that the company will actually announce two variants of the same model.

According to a report from French site Frandroid, Microsoft could unveil a refreshed version of the current Surface Pro model with only subtle improvements, as well as a more significant overhaul of the same device with refinements in terms of both hardware and design.

The new model is codenamed Campus, the site claims, and it is expected to feature a borderless design. This means Microsoft will reduce the size of the bezels around the screen, and the cited source claims the design could more or less remind of the Apple iPad Pro.

New features would include USB-C instead of USB Type-A and MiniDisplay port, with 4G LTE to also be offered from launch. There’s a chance this configuration could be launched as Surface 7 in order to set it apart from the rest of the lineup.

The second model featuring the existing look of the Surface Pro 6 is codenamed Harper and might land with a USB-C port instead of the MiniDisplay port. However, Surface Connect and USB Type-A options would still be offered, the same site adds.

In addition to the Surface Pro upgrades, Microsoft also plans to launch a third-generation Surface Laptop. This is likely to see daylight with an AMD processor, and there’s a chance Microsoft would also offer a version without Alcantara, possibly to reduce the price.

Surface Laptop 3 will be equipped with two USB Type-C ports.

Full details will be announced by Microsoft at the October 2 event, with sales likely to begin by the end of the same month.
