It’s easier to refresh the desktop after the latest update

Windows 11 comes with plenty of changes, but the closer we get to its release date, the more the operating system is further polished and everything ends up working exactly as you’d expect it to work.

The most recent preview build, for example, comes with an important change for those who need to refresh their desktops and folder contents regularly.

If you installed the original Windows 11 build, you probably know that the refresh option is no longer in the main context menu when right clicking in a folder or on the desktop. This is because Microsoft has created a new “Show more options” section in the context menu that points you to the original context menu that was bundled with Windows 10, therefore keeping the new design overall pretty clean.

The refresh option, however, has long been considered a must-have for Windows power users, so moving it under the new section and therefore requiring one extra click for the whole thing wasn’t necessarily everybody’s cup of tea.

F5 still works as well

And I, for example, found this out on my own, as some of the files that I deleted from the desktop were still there and required a refresh, and doing this regularly could eventually become quite a pain in the neck given one extra step would be required.

The latest Windows 11 preview build, however, fixes the whole thing and brings the refresh button back in the main context menu when right clicking the desktop or a folder, so everything works just like it did in Windows 10. This doesn’t make the context menu more cluttered, and in fact, it’s actually more familiar now, especially for Windows 10 users.

Of course, pressing F5 on the keyboard still works to refresh the desktop, but if you rely on mouse input more than on the keyboard, then this small change definitely comes in handy.
