14 DAY TRIAL // UPDATE: Intel has released new drivers to correct the bug, but the October 2018 Update remains blocked on systems that haven't installed them yet. Intel says:
"Windows 10 October 2018 Update update may be blocked due to issues seen with Intel Display Audio Driver versions 10.25.0.3 through 10.25.0.8. that may result in excessive processor demand and reduced battery life. A fix for these issues is already included in Intel Display Audio Driver version 10.25.0.10, which is bundled with Intel Graphics Driver version 24.20.100.6286 and newer. Intel strongly recommends that all users with 6th Generation (codenamed Skylake) or newer processors confirm that Intel Graphics Driver version 24.20.100.6286 or newer is installed on their computers before attempting to update to Windows 10 October 2018 Update."

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) may fail to install on certain systems due to incompatible Intel drivers.
A warning that shows up when trying to install the new OS feature update from the Media Creation Tool reveals that the culprit is the Intel Display Audio device driver (intcdaud.sys, versions 10.25.0.3 – 10.25.0.8).
Microsoft says in an advisory that users should wait until new drivers are released, and the company emphasizes that manual updates to version 1809 could cause further issues.
“Microsoft and Intel have identified a compatibility issue with a range of Intel Display Audio device drivers that may result in excessive processor demand and reduced battery life. As a result, the update process to Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) will fail,” the company explains.
Update already blocked
Microsoft has already blocked the update on systems with these incompatible Intel drivers, and the software giant further explains that the block would be removed when new drivers are available.
“To ensure a seamless experience, we are blocking devices from being offered Windows 10 version 1809, until updated Intel device drivers are installed on your current operating system,” the company explains.
“We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to Windows 10, version 1809, using the Update Now button or the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft Software Download Center until newer Intel device drivers are available with the update.”
The block basically prevents Windows 10 October 2018 Update from showing up in Windows Update – this is the manual download option for the new OS version. However, users can also upgrade their PCs with the Media Creation Tool, though a warning would be displayed there too.
There’s no ETA as to when the block could be removed, as it all depends on how fast Intel publishes new drivers.
