Your Phone app being released to the Fast ring

Microsoft has just started the rollout of the Your Phone app for Windows 10, with Fast ring insiders getting it as we speak.

Technically, the Your Phone app has been specifically designed to allow Android users to synchronize the phones with Windows 10 PCs, providing an easy method for transferring data like photos and files to a computer.

Vishnu Nath, head of program management, Microsoft Mobility and chief of Your Phone app, announced the beginning of the rollout earlier today on Twitter, explaining that insiders must be running the latest Windows 10 preview build to get it.

“Folks we are gearing up to flight out first beta version of the Your Phone app! Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17728,” he posted.

No word on iOS version just yet

Also, it’s important to know that the release takes place in stages, so it may take a while until all insiders get it. The launch for users in the Skip Ahead ring is also planned, but first Microsoft needs to implement some additional fixes.

For the time being, Your Phone only allows Android users to transfer photos from their phones to Windows 10 PCs, but further features would be developed and released to insiders in the coming weeks.

“We’re bringing the first set of features to Your Phone app for Windows Insiders with an Android device. Snap a pic on your Android, see it on your PC. You can finally stop emailing yourself photos. With Your Phone app, your Android’s most recent photos sync to your PC automatically. Need to add a photo to your presentation? Want to spruce up that selfie with some Windows Ink action? Just drag and drop,” Microsoft announced earlier this week.

Your Phone for iOS is also in the works, though few specifics are available in this regard. Most likely, a preview for iPhones will be released in the coming weeks, but some functionality might not be available given the restrictions Apple has implemented on iOS.
