Microsoft’s Store in Windows 10 has never become the hit the company hoped it would be, so major changes are reportedly planned on this front.

According to a report from ZDNet, Microsoft is currently exploring several options, one of which would essentially come down to killing off the Microsoft Store for Business and Microsoft Store for Education.

While the future of the consumer version of the Microsoft Store is uncertain as well, it looks like this one would continue to stick around for a little longer, albeit it’s pretty clear that sooner or later Microsoft will reconsider its plans here as well.

Microsoft Store for Business and Microsoft Store for Education allowed companies and organizations to create their own app stores and publish internal apps that would be then offered to their own fleets of devices connected to the network.

By the looks of things, the adoption of these stores is lagging behind, and giving up on both is reportedly an option that the company is currently looking into.

The aforementioned source cites unnamed sources as saying that various teams at Microsoft are currently discussing what it is being described as a “concerted strategy,” but what we do know is that the future of the Microsoft Store as a whole is “uncertain.”

What Microsoft has to do, however, is find a way to highlight Windows apps that are recommended and trusted, especially if the store itself goes away. However, at this point it’s still not very clear how the company plans to deal with the closure of the two stores, albeit it’s believed the web version could stick around for a little longer for whatever reason.

Microsoft will release a new feature update for Windows 10 in the spring, so expect big changes on the app store front this time.
