Samsung took the wraps off new foldables earlier today, and long-time partner Microsoft was part of the fun, as the software giant worked together with the South Koreans to make its apps part of the new-generation mobile experience.

Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook are now deeply integrated into Samsung’s new foldable devices, and the Redmond-based software giant has published a detailed post to brag about the whole thing.

“For instance, when you unfold a Galaxy mobile device, you can see a presentation in full-screen detail and the faces of your co-workers on the Teams call underneath. Also on that Teams call, pull up the Whiteboard and draw what you’re explaining on the board with an S Pen. With Microsoft Outlook’s dual-pane mode for Galaxy devices, you can read a full email while previewing others on the side, just like on a desktop,” the company explains.

Microsoft and Samsung, a match made in heaven

Microsoft and Samsung have been working together for quite some time now, and the two companies are bringing their devices closer to provide seamless integration of essential services.

For example, Samsung devices can be paired with Windows 10 PCs for full access to the gallery, calls, notifications, and apps. In addition, Samsung phones also support mirroring on Windows 10 PCs, with users therefore being able to use Android apps right on their desktops.

The foldable form factor pushes things to the next level.

“With the Multi-Active window, you can run multiple apps at the same time,” Patrick Chomet, executive vice president, head of Mobile Products & Experiences at Samsung, explains. “For example, you can open Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and easily drag and drop a table right into your presentation. Now, you can even run two instances of the same app.”

The new foldables are projected to land on August 27 in the first markets.
