Microsoft has just announced that its mobile apps are fully prepared for the new iOS 14 software update that Apple pushed to iPhones across the world.

First and foremost, Microsoft Edge and Outlook can now be configured to the default apps on iOS. This means that Edge can replace Safari as the default browser on your iPhone, while Outlook can take the place of Mail as the default email app on the device.

“iOS and iPadOS 14 bring a new Apple App Library that will automatically organizes your apps. Now imagine setting apps you use every day such as your email and browser from Microsoft as the default apps,” Microsoft explains.

“When you update your iOS device with the new Apple operating system and the new version of Microsoft Outlook and Edge, once available in the Apple App Store, you will be able to choose Outlook and Edge as default apps. This way, you can personalize your experience to stay connected and organized in one app for your email and calendar, and when opening links to the web, you can get the privacy and productivity you expect from Microsoft while you browse.”

Widget support on iOS 14

Furthermore, Microsoft’s apps are getting support for widgets in iOS 14.

One of the biggest improvements in iOS 14 is the addition of widgets, and the operating system ships with Apple apps already coming with such a feature.

Starting today, OneDrive comes with full support for the widgets too, and so does the Outlook calendar.

“With the flexibility to pick your widget size and location, you can stay on top of what matters at a glance with an Outlook Calendar widget to see what’s next in your day with your work, school and personal account.  When using OneDrive with your personal account, you can see your photo memories from the On This Day feature, highlighting photos taken on this day across previous years. If you don't have any On This Day photos for today, you'll see your most recent photos that you've saved to the cloud,” Microsoft explains.

To benefit from all these improvements, you need to update your apps to the latest versions.
