Microsoft has announced a preview version of the Windows 10 notification integration for Microsoft Teams, essentially allowing users to choose between the default notification system that comes with the application or the toast design available in the OS.

At this point, Microsoft is still collecting feedback on this feature, and the company says that once this phase is complete, it should bring the new notification system to everybody out there.

“Native notifications for Windows 10 are available as part of the public preview program and may undergo further changes before being released publicly. To get access to native notifications and other upcoming features, switch to the Teams public preview,” Microsoft explains.

Once released, the new notification options will show up in Microsoft Teams under Settings > Notifications > Appearance and sound > Notification style. You will be provided with two different options, namely Windows and Teams built-in.

“You can now choose between two styles of Teams desktop notifications: either the default Teams purple notifications, or the Windows 10 style. If you want notifications to adhere to your device’s do not disturb and other settings, choose Windows 10 native notifications. Upon switching, your Teams notifications will be delivered through the Windows notification center and move to the action center if you miss the notifications,” the company explains.

No word on the ETA

While at first glance this doesn’t seem to be such a big update, it actually is, as Microsoft Teams notification settings will now follow the rules of the operating system too.

Not only notifications will be controlled by Focus Assist, but at the same time, any missed notifications would be directed to the notification center, so you can check them out at a later time.

Microsoft hasn’t shared an ETA as to when this feature is supposed to reach general availability.
