Microsoft has just announced that Windows 11 would get its very first major update in February, and just as expected, the company will include several options that have already been tested in the Windows Insider program.

In addition to a public preview of Android apps on Windows 11, this highly anticipated release will include a series of taskbar improvements, including options to mute and unmute calls.

Furthermore, Microsoft says the weather will be brought back to the taskbar, just like it happened on Windows 10 when News and interests was released.

Launching next month for all Windows 11 devices

And of course, the update will also include new apps, like Notepad and Media Player,  as they will both become available for all users on Windows 11.

“Next month we’re bringing new experiences to Windows that include a public preview of how you can use Android apps on Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store and our partnerships with Amazon and Intel, taskbar improvements with call mute and unmute, easier window sharing and bringing weather to the taskbar, plus the introduction of two new redesigned apps, Notepad and Media Player,” Microsoft announced today.

“Windows will continue to be the backbone for innovation, a destination for gaming, creativity and exploration, and a gateway to the Metaverse.”

Needless to say, the update will most likely to live in stages for devices already running Windows 11, but additional specifics on this will be shared closer to release date.

At this point, the only date we have is February, so if we’re lucky enough, the update could go live in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, the rollout of Windows 11 as a whole also continues, as Microsoft says it has reached the final stages ahead of the completion date set for mid-2022.
