14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft will discontinue the official Wunderlist apps on May 6, 2020, with the company focusing exclusively on Microsoft To Do going forward.
The majority of features in Wunderlist have already been migrated to Microsoft To Do, and the software giant reminds in an announcement that retiring the original app was the plan from the very beginning.
“When we first announced Microsoft To Do, we also announced that Wunderlist would eventually retire. We planned this so we could concentrate on building a more integrated and secure app that helps you get stuff done in a smarter way,” the Wunderlist team explained.
Wunderlist apps will continue to work normally until May 6, so users can still access their data, export or transfer it to Microsoft To Do.
Sign-ups no longer allowed
But on the other hand, when the May 6 milestone is reached, the synchronization feature will stop working, and Microsoft says that accessing data and transferring it to Microsoft To Do will still be allowed for a certain period of time.
Beginning today, however, signing up for Wunderlist is no longer possible.
“Why are we doing this now? We’ve stopped releasing new features and big updates to Wunderlist, so as the app ages it’s become more difficult to maintain. As technology continues to advance, we can’t guarantee that Wunderlist will continue to work as it should, or as we’d like it to. With all our latest updates, we’re confident in To Do being the best alternative for Wunderlist now and so we believe it’s the right time to make the next move. Now, we want to dedicate all our time to growing that cross-suite experience that transforms how you achieve your goals and dreams,” the team says.
