Microsoft has shipped a new Windows Insider preview build, this time specifically aimed at users testing Windows 10 version 21H2 in the Release Preview channel.

Windows 10 build 19044.1198, which lands in the form of cumulative update KB5005101, comes with three new features that are supposed to be part of the final version 21H2 when it launches later this year.

First of all, Microsoft says it’s adding WPA3 H2E standards support for enhanced Wi-Fi security, and then, Windows Hello for Business is getting a new deployment method called cloud trust. This new security feature is supposed to allow for what Microsoft calls simplified passwordless deployments.

And last but not least, this build brings GPU computer support in WSL and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows deployments.

Only available in the Release Preview channel

Right now, the Release Preview ring is being provided with both Windows 10 version 21H1 and 21H2 builds, depending on the configuration. Microsoft explains who gets this new build;

“This update will be offered automatically for Windows Insiders already on Windows 10, version 21H2 in the Release Preview Channel. For Insiders not yet on Windows 10, version 21H2 – this update is offered via our “seeker” experience in Windows Update and ONLY to Insiders who were moved from the Beta Channel to the Release Preview Channel because their PC did not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11. This means these Insiders will need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and choose to download and install Windows 10, version 21H2.”

Windows 10 version 21H2 is projected to launch in the fall alongside Windows 11, and while Microsoft hasn’t shared any ETA at this point, it’s expected to see the daylight in October or November, according to the typical Windows 10 update calendar.
