Microsoft has just confirmed another upgrade block for Windows 10 May 2019 Update, which is the latest Windows 10 feature update whose rollout started earlier this week.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update won’t be offered to devices running an older version of BattlEye software, the company says, as it detected compatibility issues that could cause various issues.

Microsoft discovered problems with anti-cheat software during the Windows Insider program, and the company worked together with game developers to resolve them.

In an advisory detailing this upgrade block, Microsoft says a new version of BattlEye software is already available for download, but devices not running this latest update won’t be allowed to download and install Windows 10 version 1903.

“To keep your gaming experience safe, Microsoft has placed a compatibility hold on devices with the impacted versions of BattlEye software. This means that the Windows 10, version 1903 update won't be offered to those PCs until the incompatible version of Battleye is removed or replaced,” Microsoft says.

Manual updates not recommended

While users can skip this upgrade block by manually installing Windows 10 May 2019 Update with the Media Creation Tool, Microsoft recommends against this solution, explaining that the PC could end up experiencing other issues. Updating BattlEye is the only way to go, it says.

“We recommend that you don't attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until you have installed an updated version of BattlEye software that resolves this issue. BattlEye has provided an updated patch to known impacted games,” Microsoft says.

Microsoft adds that on devices where Windows 10 May 2019 Update can’t be installed users should try a series of workarounds like updating the games to the latest versions, reinstalling BattlEye software, restarting the PC, and even reinstalling the games completely to remove any possible compatibility issues.
