Users getting new capabilities for photos in the cloud

Microsoft has just announced a series of photo editing improvements coming to OneDrive, as the company wants to make it easier to work with images stored in the cloud.

First and foremost, the cropping experience is getting an overhaul with built-in presets that allow users to crop standard images to sizes that get them ready for social media. A free form is also available should you want to make a custom crop, though the presets should come in handy whenever you want to share a photo to a certain story or create a profile image.

Then, users will be allowed to rotate and flip images and perform a series of light and color adjustments.

“Have you ever noticed how satisfying it is to adjust the light and color saturation of your images? There’s no better feeling than watching an image transform from muted colors and low contrast to richly colored and stunning. Now it’s easy to make those transformations with adjustments for brightness, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, and color saturation. Once you’re done with the enhancements, admire your artistry by tapping and holding on the image to compare the new version with its original,” Microsoft explains in today’s announcement.

Big changes coming to the Android client

OneDrive for Android is also getting Chromecast support to let you stream photos and videos to your TV, with the mobile client for Google’s operating system to also get new filters that will allow you to organize photos based on sources like text messages, social media, WhatsApp, and screenshots.

“To help keep these better organized, we’re soon introducing a new setting that creates folders based on the upload source. Images from those sources are automatically added to their respective folders. And if you like to keep images organized by date, you can group your images by month and year,” Microsoft says.

This feature is projected to make its way to Android users at some point in the next two months.
