The company has managed to fix crashes with hardware buttons

Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 preview build to insiders out there, and in addition to a bunch of welcome updates, the company has also included several critical bug fixes.

In other words, the experience with Windows 11 should be much smoother after installing build 22538, though it’s important to keep in mind all these improvements are still exclusive to insiders.

First and foremost, Microsoft says it has resolved a glitch causing the hardware buttons for volume on some devices to cause a crash of explorer.exe. Indeed, this has been a major annoyance in Windows 11 preview builds, though the bug only occurred occasionally.

Furthermore, the company says that it also addressed a problem causing some insiders to see text in Settings mixed up. And after installing this build, the audio and the video should no longer be out of sync during video playback when resuming from sleep or hibernate.

Even more fixes

Microsoft explains in the changelog that it has also addressed a problem affecting the search experience.

“We’ve done some work to address an issue wherein typing when using Search from Start or after clicking the Search icon Taskbar would not actually start a Search, as no text was input. If you continue to experience this issue after upgrading, please file a new piece of feedback under Desktop Environment > Search in Feedback Hub,” it says.

Widgets are also getting a couple of fixes, and while these may not seem much at first glance, they are, especially as Microsoft is working on adding support for third-party browsers in Windows 11.

“We fixed the issue where if you changed the taskbar alignment, it would cause the Widgets button to disappear from taskbar. Widgets content on taskbar should not get out of sync between monitors when multiple monitors are connecting to your PC,” Microsoft says.

Keep in mind this is a preview build, so other issues could still be experienced.
