Windows 10 version 1903 is set to reach EOL in December

Microsoft is getting ready to retire Windows 10 version 1903, or May 2019 Update, in December this year, so the company is now making plans on how it can keep devices still running it secure.

The decision that the software giant will embrace comes down to automatic updates on these computers, so if you’re still running Windows 10 version 1903 you will soon be moved to a newer version of the operating system.

Interestingly enough, Microsoft won’t just install the latest version of Windows 10 on these machines but instead stick with a smaller update. In other words, what you’re going to get is Windows 10 version 1909, or the November 2019 Update, all in an attempt to make the transition as smoothly as possible.

Windows 10 version 1909 has been described as a little bit more than a service pack, so the focus for this release was OS reliability and stability, with fewer new features actually included.

Microsoft: Upgrade as soon as possible

Microsoft recommends users to upgrade their devices manually before the end of support deadline is reached.

“All editions of Windows 10, version 1903 and Windows 10 Server, version 1903 will reach end of service on December 8, 2020. After this date, devices running these editions of Windows will no longer receive security updates. We recommend that you update these devices to a supported version as soon as possible to continue to receive monthly quality updates with security and non-security fixes,” the company explains.

According to the existing calendar, Windows 10 version 1903 is thus projected to be pulled on December 8, which means that it would no longer receive security updates on Home and Pro SKUs after this date. Updating to a newer version of Windows 10 is free and can be done from Windows Update.
