Jump lists now featuring the accent color too

Microsoft is making subtle changes to the Windows 10 desktop in the upcoming version 1903 update, and users enrolled in the Windows Insider program can already get a taste of how everything looks.

The most recent Windows 10 preview build – 18323 – comes with colored jump lists, basically rounding up Microsoft’s implementation of colored themes across the operating system.

As you can see in this screenshot posted on Twitter by Microsoft engineer Jen Gentleman (via HTNovo), the jump lists now follow the accent color settings of the operating system.

The jump lists are menus that show up when right-clicking a taskbar icon, and until now, they’ve been using a dark gray theme in both the dark and the light visual styles on Windows 10.

Only working with the dark theme for now

However, with the debut of Windows 10 version 1903 (currently codenamed 19H1 and likely to launch as April 2019 Update), Microsoft is going to change this by allowing the accent color to expand it to jump lists too.

By the looks of things, this feature currently works with the dark theme of Windows 10 only, but there’s a good chance that Microsoft will enable it for the light mode as well by the time the 19H1 update is finalized. This is projected to happen in March, while the public rollout is scheduled to kick off in April.

To try out the new feature, users must enable the accident color to be display in Start, taskbar, and action center, but also in the title bars and window borders. These options are available under Settings > Personalization > Colors.

The next step would pretty much be bringing accent colors to context menus as well, though Microsoft hasn’t said anything about a change in this regard for the being.
