Microsoft 365 has been struggling with several outages lately, and earlier today, the service has been impacted by another similar problem once again.

What first looked to be just some downtime impacting Microsoft Teams ended up becoming a massive outage affecting the entire Microsoft 365 platform, including Word, and SharePoint.

Microsoft confirmed the issues several hours ago, explaining that users were unable to access Microsoft Teams and the built-in features.

“We've received reports of users being unable to access Microsoft Teams or leverage any features. We're investigating the issue and further updates can be found in your Service Health Dashboard via TM402718,” it said on Twitter. “We’ve determined that a recent deployment contained a broken connection to an internal storage service, which has resulted in impact. We’re working to direct traffic to a healthy service to mitigate impact. Additional information can be found in the admin center under TM402718.”

The company later confirmed that the outage actually affected several other Microsoft 365 services, including Word.

“We've identified downstream impact to multiple Microsoft 365 services with Teams integration, such as Microsoft Word, Office Online and SharePoint Online. We're providing updates for those services via MO402741 in the admin center or through http://status.office.com,” it said.

While little information was provided on the actual error, Microsoft managed to restore access to Microsoft Teams and other affected services some 4 hours after it officially acknowledged the problem. At the time of writing, everything should be working properly for all users, though we’re seeing reports that some users have lost the pinned contacts in Microsoft Teams.

“Our telemetry indicates that Microsoft Teams functionality is beginning to recover. We're continuing our efforts to implement relief within the environment. Additional information can be found under TM402718, MO402741, or at http://status.office.com. We are continuing to see improvements to the affected Microsoft Teams functionality. We're focused on mitigating the remaining impact,” it said.
