The rollout of Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) has just reached another stage, as Microsoft decided to make it available for all users who manually check for updates in Windows Update.

The company has updated the official Windows 10 version 1809 update history page with a notification that the October update can be downloaded from Windows Update by all users when they manually trigger a check for updates.

“Rollout Status as of December 17, 2018: Windows 10, version 1809, is now fully available for advanced users who manually select “Check for updates” via Windows Update,” the latest update on the page reads.

In other words, you can now download and install Windows 10 version 1809 on your system by heading over to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

The Windows 10 version 1809 saga

Windows 10 version 1809 was originally released on October 2, but it was pulled only a few days later after Microsoft discovered a major bug causing the deletion of user files stored in libraries.

The update was then republished in November, but Microsoft embraced a slower rollout in order to ensure a smoother update experience for all devices. As a result, the company also restricted the manual download option from Windows Update to systems flagged as fully compatible.

Microsoft making version 1809 available to all users who manually check for updates is an indication that the October update is now considered more reliable. The aforementioned Windows 10 version 1809 update history page also indicates that the majority of bugs acknowledged by Microsoft have also been fixed.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Microsoft pushed Windows 10 version 1809 to the majority of Surface devices, though in this case the update was offered automatically together with the rest of the December 2018 Patch Tuesday fixes.
