In the latest monthly newsletter, Linux Mint project leader Clement Lefebvre revealed the codename of the next Linux Mint release in the Linux Mint 19.x series, Linux Mint 19.2.

After Linux Mint 19 “Tara” and Linux Mint 19.1 “Tessa,” it will come Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina,” which remains based on the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) operating system series. Yes, you’ve read that right, the upcoming Linux Mint 19.2 release will be codenamed “Tina.”

Most probably, the Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina” operating system will get all the updates from the Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS point release, which was released in February 2019 with the Linux 4.18 kernel stack from the Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) operating system series.

As expected, Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina” will be supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, and in will be available in three editions with the Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce desktop environments. Clement Lefebvre confirmed that fact that Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina” will be supported until April 2023.

Linux Mint 19.2 will come with improved artwork and apps

Like all new Linux Mint releases, the Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina” operating system will come with various improvements across apps and artwork. According to Clement Lefebvre, the upcoming release will feature the Ubuntu fonts by default, full color action icons, and better contrast for the Mint-Y theme.

"The theme contrast in Mint-Y went under heavy scrutiny. We did improve it twice after all, and if we were still getting negative feedback, so it was time to really analyze this, write down anything that could be wrong with it, fix it and stand our ground once the job was done," explained Lefebvre.

The Update Manager utility has also received several enhancements, and the Cinnamon edition promises smoother and lighter windows, the ability to switch on and off the VSYNC function without restarting Cinnamon, and a new printer applet by default. Linux Mint 19.2 “Tina” should enter public beta testing in the coming weeks.
