14 DAY TRIAL // The Document Foundation has just released a new version of LibreOffice for the supported desktop platforms, namely Windows, Linux, and Mac.
LibreOffice 7.0.2 is the second minor release for the main LibreOffice 7.0 update, and this suggests from the very beginning but that the focus has been entirely on fixing bugs under the hood and improving the overall performance of the productivity suite.
According to The Document Foundation, LibreOffice 7.0.2 comes with no less than 130 bug fixes and improvements to document compatibility, and if you’ve used this software before, you certainly know how important the refinements in this area actually are.
LibreOffice is often considered the main alternative to the more expensive Microsoft Office, so full support for the formats used by Microsoft’s suite is critical to ensure a smooth transmission from one product to another.
“LibreOffice offers the highest level of compatibility in the office suite arena, starting from native support for the OpenDocument Format (ODF) – with better security and interoperability features – to wide support for proprietary formats,” the organization claims.
LibreOffice keeps getting better
On the other hand, while most people are tempted to rush and install LibreOffice 7.0.2, The Document Foundation warns that this is supposed to be used by advanced users, while those who want nothing more than the most stable experience overall should stick with the latest LibreOffice 6 release.
“LibreOffice 7.0.2 represents the bleeding edge in term of features for open source office suites. Users wanting the robustness of a more mature version optimized for enterprise class deployments can still download LibreOffice 6.4.6,” it says.
In the meantime, the good news is that LibreOffice continues to evolve, so if you want to pay a subscription for Office 365 or buy the version with a full license, this productivity suite is pretty much the best alternative.
