A new version of LibreOffice is now available for everyone

The Document Foundation has recently announced a new version of LibreOffice that can be downloaded right now on all supported desktop platforms, namely Linux, Windows, and Mac.

LibreOffice 6.4.3 comes with plenty of fixes, and because it’s just a regular release that’s the third minor update to the 6.4 build, no new features are included this time, so this is pretty much all you get.

However, what’s important to know is that TDF still offers LibreOffice 6.4 as a version “targeted at technology enthusiasts and power users,” and everyone else should just stick with version 6.3.5 for the most stable experience.

“LibreOffice 6.4.3 represents the bleeding edge in term of features for open source office suites, and as such is not optimized for enterprise class deployments, where features are less important than robustness. Users wanting a more mature version can download LibreOffice 6.3.5, which includes some months of back-ported fixes,” TDF explains.

Bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements

LibreOffice 6.4.3 is mostly about bug fixes and improvements to document compatibility, and while this may not seem much at first, it’s actually the thing everyone expects from this productivity suite.

LibreOffice is considered the main alternative to Microsoft Office, so further document compatibility improvements can only be good news, especially as more users and organizations make the switch. After embracing LibreOffice, everybody needs to be able to work with Office documents just right, so these updates certainly come in handy.

More recently, TDF also reminded that while it’s not working on dedicated mobile versions of the LibreOffice, some apps allowing you to work with documents and created by the community or partners do exist, so technically, you can push the power of this productivity suite beyond the desktop.

You can download LibreOffice 6.4.3 right now from Softpedia if you want to give a try to the new version.
