Lenovo has remained the leading company in the PC market, as it managed to sell more than 18.3 million devices in the first quarter of the year.

This is according to market analysis firm IDC, as Lenovo managed to secure a share of 22.7 percent in Q1 2022, down from 23.7 percent a year before.

HP was the runner-up with 15.8 million units, down from 19.2 million units in the first quarter of 2021, while Dell finished third with 13.7 million units. Apple was far behind with 13.7 million units.

Overall, the entire industry managed to sell 80.5 million PCs in the first quarter, a decline of 5.1 percent versus the same period a year before.

But according to IDC, this isn’t necessarily bad news.

“The focus shouldn't be on the year-over-year decline in PC volumes because that was to be expected. The focus should be on the PC industry managing to ship more than 80 million PCs at a time when logistics and supply chain are still a mess, accompanied by numerous geopolitical and pandemic-related challenges,” said Ryan Reith, group vice president with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.

“We have witnessed some slowdown in both the education and consumer markets, but all indicators show demand for commercial PCs remains very strong. We also believe that the consumer market will pick up again in the near future. The result of 1Q22 was PC shipment volumes that were near record levels for a first quarter.”

The biggest drop in the first quarter of the year was recorded by HP, whose decline reached 17.8 percent. On the other hand, ASUS recorded a growth of 17.7 percent, with its market share growing from 5.6 percent in Q1 2021 to 6.9 percent in the same quarter of this year.

Apple currently holds an 8.0 percent market share.
