Microsoft Surface Duo expected later this year

Microsoft is projected to take the wraps off its first Android phone later this year, and while the company remains tight-lipped on key information about the device, more details make the headlines through unofficial channels.

Microsoft announced the Surface Duo at its hardware event last fall, promising to launch it in the first markets in the holiday season of this year.

And while it looks like the release is still on the table for 2020, it seems the company should have another reason to worry about: the specs of its dual-screen Android phone could be outdated at the time of its launch.

More specifically, a report from Windows Central reveals that the Surface Duo could come with a Snapdragon 855 processor paired with 6 GB of RAM. While this processor was a good choice last year when Microsoft announced the Surface Duo, a late-2020 launch could mean the device would actually be a little behind its rivals which already run revised chips.

Small battery too

Samsung Galaxy Fold, for example, is powered by the same processor, but its launch took place in September 2019 after previously being announced in February the same year. So Surface Duo would launch with the same processor more than a year later.

Then, the Surface Duo is expected to come with 64 GB or 256 GB of storage, again something that many might find disappointing, especially because the device is projected to be offered as a productivity device. Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with 512 GB of storage.

Other specs of the Surface Duo include an 11-megapixel camera, two 5.6-inch AMOLED screens with a resolution of 1800x1350 pixels, and a 3,460 mAh battery that’ll make it very interesting to see how it lasts through the day, especially since there are two displays that it needs to power.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is equipped with a 4,380 mAh battery.
