It’s all but confirmed now: corner holes on their way

A few months ago, a crazy rumor made the headlines revealing that in an attempt to stay away from the controversial notch, Samsung planned to drill holes into its displays and thus embed front-facing parts, like the selfies camera, into the glass.

As it turns out, this is exactly what the company wants to do, and leaks that have been swirling around the web in the last few weeks served as some sort of unofficial confirmation.

Most recently, a screen protector allegedly built for the Galaxy A8s leaked to the web, once again indicated that a hole in the top left corner of the display is very likely.

Samsung calls these displays Infinity O, and although it was originally believed that they would be exclusively used on flagships, like the Galaxy S10 and the Note 10 – both coming in 2019, it looks like the South Korean firm wants to install it on mid-rangers too.

Smaller bezels

The Galaxy A8s could thus be the first model to boast the highly-anticipated Infinity O screen, though other specifics aren’t available for now.

This leak, however, seems to indicate that this new design approach makes it possible for Samsung to also reduce the size of bezels quite substantially.

The Galaxy S10, for instance, is expected to come with nearly invisible bezels on the sides, but Samsung’s challenge is to reduce the ones at the top and the bottom. Whether this is going to be possible still remains to be seen, but with holes drilled into the glass, Samsung is clearly making a major step towards this goal.

No specifics are available as to when the first Infinity O phone could make it to the market, but with Samsung itself dropping hints about these devices, we’re guessing the launch is just around the corner.
