New XCover model expected to launch this month

Samsung isn’t necessarily very active in the market of rugged smartphones, but the company has previously launched some pretty interesting models here, including the Galaxy Active lineup that was supposed to bring flagship features in a super-durable package.

This time, it looks like the South Koreans are putting a little bit more effort into a more affordable rugged smartphone which could launch this month as Galaxy XCover 4s.

German site WinFuture says this device could go live on June 12 and be sold in Europe for 250 Euros.

Since it’s supposed to be a rugged smartphone, its strength has been further enhanced with a rubber case which doesn’t necessarily look good, but on the other hand, score extra points in terms of grip and resistance to typical hits and drops that such a model would be prone to.

Rugged phone with modest hardware

The XCover 4s has already received a MIL-STD 810G rating, so you can safely drop it to the ground from 120 centimeters and everything should still be working just alright. And of course, there’s an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, but this is nothing to be surprised of given that even the Galaxy S10 and the Note 9 come with a similar rating.

What’s more surprising is that this phone features such a high level of water resistance despite coming with a removable battery, which typically affects smartphones in this regard.

If you’re more interested in hardware, there’s nothing on the XCover 4s that could convince you to give up on a flagship phone, for instance.

Power will come from an Exynos 7886 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The phone will feature a 5.-inch 720p display and a standard 16-megapixel main camera on the back coupled with a 5-megapixel unit on the front for selfies. It will run Android Pie and use a 2,800 mAh battery.
