14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has recently acknowledged a new bug in Windows 10, and it appears that the latest cumulative updates shipped by the company are the ones to blame for it.
According to the software giant itself, installing the late-September cumulative updates breaks down printing in Windows 10, and the company claims that retrying to print or restarting the device could work.
A fix is already in the works, Microsoft explains, but an ETA isn’t yet available, which means that you’re stuck with the retrying thing when printing fails.
“The print spooler service may intermittently have issues completing a print job and may result in a print job being canceled or failing. Some apps may close or error when the print spooler fails and you may receive a remote procedure call error (RPC error) from some printing utility or printing apps,” Microsoft says.
New cumulative updates next week
The bug exists in all versions of Windows 10 and Windows Server, but also on Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1. The affected client Windows versions are the following:

“Retrying to print may allow you to print successfully. If retrying does not allow you to print, you may also need to restart your device. If your device is using a v4 print driver and a v3 driver is available, you can also try installing the v3 driver as a workaround.”
New cumulative updates are scheduled to ship on October 8 as part of the next Patch Tuesday rollout, but a fix may not be included.
