Windows 10 build 19640 now available for download

Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 preview build for users enrolled in the Fast ring, and just as expected, there are no new features but only two small improvements.

One of them, however, resolves a rather important annoyance, as it improves the Storage Sense cleanup.

As most Windows 10 users know already, Storage Sense’s automatic cleanup feature can also remove files in the Downloads folder, which is something that makes sense given this is where most users save their downloads. And unless they are moved to a different folder, they just stack up and end up eating precious storage on the device, so Windows 10 automatically clearing them out is a welcome improvement.

But on the other hand, if the Downloads folder is synced with a cloud service, deleting the data here obviously isn’t the right way to go.

Four known issues

And in Windows 10 build 19640, Microsoft finally addresses this behavior and resolve the whole thing.

“Based on feedback, if your Downloads folder is synced to a cloud provider, we are disabling the option to have Storage Sense automatically clear out your Downloads folder on a cycle,” the company explains.

Additionally, this new build also comes with a change concerning the way you log in. If users are prompted to enter their usernames on the login screen, pressing space accidentally no longer returns an error and the keypress is simply ignored.

As it’s the case with all the other preview builds, this new release also comes with a series of known issues, and you can check them out in the changelog after the jump. Worth knowing, however, is that this is a minor release that comes to further polish the experience overall in Windows 10, so if you were hoping to get new features, this isn’t the case today.
