Apple rolled out new software updates earlier this week, this time for iOS, macOS, and watchOS, and in detailed support documents published on the company’s website, the Cupertino-based tech giant reveals that some security vulnerabilities are also being addressed.

What’s more important to know, however, is that these security patches are aimed at flaws possibly currently exploited in the wild, so users need to update their devices as soon as possible.

Apple says that iOS 14.5.1 and iPad OS 14.5.1 resolve two security vulnerabilities in WebKit, both of which may have been actively exploited, as the company explains.

First and foremost, it’s a memory corruption issue which the company says it has addressed with improved state management.

“Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited,” Apple says.

Older iPhones also getting updates

Then, the iOS and iPadOS updates also resolve an integer flow bug that was resolved with improved input validation.

“Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited,” Apple further notes.

The same vulnerabilities have also been addressed in macOS Big Sur 11.3.1.

As far as iOS 12.5.3 is concerned, which is now available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, and iPad mini 3, the update targets not only the two security bugs mentioned above, but also two additional vulnerabilities which Apple also says may have been actively exploited.

Needless to say, everybody is recommended to update their devices as soon as possible no matter if they use an older iPhone or a newer model. macOS computers also need to be patched urgently, especially given these bugs are believed to have been targeted by malicious actors.
