14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has released iOS 14.7 beta 2 to developers out there a few hours ago, but unfortunately, it looks like this update also introduces a critical error that breaks down a few things on the devices where it’s installed.
More specifically, some of those who deploy iOS 14.7 beta 2 on their iPhones could end up getting a critical SIM failure error that shows up after booting their devices following the installation of the update.
At the first glance, only people using eSIM are affected, with these iPhones then no longer being able to make and receive calls or connect to the Internet using a cellular data plan. This makes sense, as it looks like the iPhone fails to initialize the SIM, which means that no SIM services are available on the affected devices.
At this point, no known workaround is known to exist, but of course, Apple will most likely resolve it when the next beta build of iOS 14.7 lands. The good news is that the Wi-Fi connection is still working as expected, so in theory, there shouldn’t be any problem to install a new software update on the affected devices.
You’d better skip the update
In the meantime, you’re obviously recommended to skip this update, especially if you use the iPhone for important things.
Although you really shouldn’t deploy beta builds of iOS on productivity iPhones because after all, these releases are rolled out for testing purposes in the first place. In other words, the likelihood of hitting issues like this one is pretty high, so you should always deploy them on secondary iPhones that are specifically used for testing.
At this point, Apple hasn’t provided any information as to what exactly happens and when developers could get a fix, but as I said, expect the next beta build to resolve the whole thing.
