Best Buy data shows iPhone sales are collapsing

While Apple remains tight-lipped on the performance of 2018 iPhones, as the company would not even disclose how many devices it sells, reports pointing to declining demand keep making the headlines.

And today, we get a closer look at how the 2018 iPhone generation really performs thanks to data coming from Best Buy, which right now is the largest retailer of iPhones after Apple.

The numbers, which were posted by Thinknum, reveal that sales figures of the 2018 iPhone have been going down for the past two months or so, mostly after they peaked right after the September release.

iPhone XS, for example, reached the lowest level since launch in December after its performance was full of ups and downs throughout the last 60 days.

iPhone XS with 512GB, the biggest drop

The 512GB version of iPhone XS is dropped the most, according to the data, and it’s now close to becoming the 38,000th most popular product at Best Buy, after reaching the highest rank of 17,100.

Somehow odd is that the iPhone XS Max with 512GB storage, which is substantially more expensive, has performed somehow a little bit better since launch, though its sales are still well below expectations. It is now ranked the 15,800th product at Best Buy.

Needless to say, this can’t be good news for Apple, especially as the Cupertino-based tech giant has tried to slow down the decline of 2018 iPhones with several aggressive measures lately.

One of them is a substantial production cut at suppliers, as Apple struggles to align the output with the adjusted expected demand. Apple has even turned to discounts and more aggressive marketing, a rare thing for the Cupertino giant, as demand for the 2018 generation has been going down continuously since launch.

Sales of the new iPhones are likely to decline again in early 2019 after recovering during the holiday season.
