KSP fans rejoice! Private Division and Squad have teamed up with the European Space Agency (ESA) to launch a brand-new expansion for Kerbal Space Program called Shared Horizons. More importantly, the upcoming content will be available for free to all owners of the base game on all platforms.

However, Kerbal Space Program Shared Horizons will only be available on PC at launch, while consoles will get it later this year. Those who play on PC will be able to download Shared Horizons starting July 1.

Since it's free don't expect too much content to be included in Shared Horizons. Still, you'll be getting two new missions that recreate European Space Agency ventures, the Ariane 5 rocket, ESA-themed space suits for Kerbals, as well as new parts and science experiments.

The first mission included in the upcoming expansion is called BepiColombo and allows players to recreate the joint expedition between the ESA and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to Mercury. In this mission, players must reach orbit and land on Moho, the equivalent of Mercury in the Kerbal universe, while performing various scientific tasks from the real ESA mission.

The second mission is called Rosetta pays tribute to the successful landing on a Jupiter-family comet, allowing players to gather important data about comets.

Here at the European Space Agency, many of our engineers and scientists are very familiar with KSP. Both Rosetta and BepiColombo are highly complex missions that have specific challenges; however, each proves to be very rewarding for ESA and the global scientific community. Because of this, I am very happy that these ground-breaking science missions can be experienced on Kerbin as well as on Earth,” said Günther Hasinger, Director of Science at ESA.

Both missions are based on historic ESA expeditions and should provide players with the opportunity to experience these exciting space discovery moments in Kerbal Space Program.
