The KDE Project released the sixth point release of the long-term supported KDE Plasma 5.12 desktop environment to address various issues in an attempt to increase the overall stability and reliability of the desktop.

KDE Plasma 5.12.6 LTS comes almost two months after the KDE Plasma 5.12.5 LTS point release to add no less than 113 fixes across several components, including Plasma Desktop, Plasma Workspace, Plasma Discover, System Settings, Plasma NetworkManager (plasma-nm), plasma-integration, Milou, KWin, KSysGuard, Info Center, KDE Hotkeys, and Plasma Add-ons.

Highlights of this new KDE Plasma 5.12 LTS maintenance update include better support for Snap and Flatpak apps in the Plasma Discover graphical package manager, better importing of OpenVPN connections in Plasma NetworkManager (plasma-nm), addition of mapping’s for VirtualBox in Plasma Workspace, and dozens of updated components to version 5.12 in Plasma Desktop. KDE Plasma 5.12.7 LTS scheduled for release on September 25, 2018

The release cycle of the KDE Plasma 5.12 LTS desktop environment will continue with the KDE Plasma 5.12.7 LTS point release, which is currently scheduled for release on September 25, 2018. Most probably, this would bring an even bigger amount of changes in an attempt to keep KDE Plasma 5.12 LTS a stable and reliable release for those who prefer long-term supported software.

We recommend all users of the KDE Plasma 5.12 LTS desktop environment to update as soon as possible to the KDE Plasma 5.12.6 LTS point release, which should be available in the software repositories of their favorite GNU/Linux distributions shortly. If you want a newer, short-lived release, we recommend upgrading to the recently released KDE Plasma 5.13 desktop environment instead, which already received its second point release.
